Week 14: Bring on the Sleep...

Hola Everyone,

SUCCESS! Christie finally slept well for the first time in weeks this past weekend!!!...and has been sleeping a little better ever since. Hopefully, this means that the "Legend of the 2nd Trimester" is true...You see, this week marks the start of the 2nd trimester. The "Legend of the 2nd Trimester" goes something like this: Pregnant ladies feel awful to very awful for the first 3 months or so of pregnancy because of no sleep, vomiting (luckily we missed most of this chapter), and headaches. Then, by some hormonal magic, the sleep gets better, energy returns, and the ladies feel better to much better... They also start to grow larger and larger, mostly around the midsection... We haven't experienced the entire Legend, since Christie is just starting this part, but we hope it all comes true.

Baby continues to grow and is now getting pretty darn heavy... it's 3 1/2 inches long and 1.5 ounces! Crazy huh? We get weekly updates from BabyCenter.com and it usually compares the baby to some sort of fruit, be it something normal like a blueberry or something unusual like a fig... So, on Wednesday Christie tells me... and I quote "Our baby is a Lemon"... Hmmmm, to me that sounds like our baby is going to have a broken transmission 4 times within the first 4 months... Not cool! Thank goodness babies don't have transmissions. Obviously, what she meant was the our baby is not about the size of a lemon. Which is pretty cool.

Christie is beginning to show just a teeny bit. Just barely... but I'm sure that will change soon enough, again if the Legend isn't a pack of lies...

Adios,

Week 13: Shrimp and Peas

Hello,

So Christie hasn't been sleeping well at all lately and is more tired than usual. This makes me feel helpless a lot. The Snoogle isn't helping much (even though I'm not sure that's what is was intended for anyway. I'm pretty sure it's just a "comfortable" way to keep her from rolling onto her back later on (this restricts blood flow to the baby.) Other than that Christie is feeling good. No weird cravings, however, she went on an olive and pickle binge for a while (just pickles no ice cream combo... Yet)

Baby is about the size of a medium shrimp and if it's a girl, she already has over 2,000,000 eggs (which is crazy to me... don't know why, but I can't seem to get my head around that idea.) Baby now has finger prints, so from this day until they turn 18, it is our job to make sure that they never become a part of any Police Database anywhere! Ever! After that, I guess we just hope... But I might be getting ahead of myself.

We are in the planning process of turning our "OSU shrine" room/office into the guest room (don't worry, it'll still be OSU style!) and our guest room into the baby room. Everything but paint color has been decided (we'll find out in early March, so vote if you want... Only a little over a month left to do so. By the way, it's at about 51% Boy and I think that is wrong... I don't care what it is, but I have a strange feeling it's gonna have eggs, but more on that later)

We also recently got a Fetal Doppler so that we can hear Baby's heartbeat any time we want! Pretty cool stuff. We can even record it on the computer... so, maybe, one day, I'll record it and put it on here. It'll probably be in a few months when the heartbeat is louder... It's a little hard to hear right now. That's probably because its only the size of a medium shrimp, so imagine how big that little heart is... maybe the size of a english pea?

Espresso...

Howdy,

This time I'm going to give you guys some pictures to look at. We have been looking at baby furniture for the last few weekends... I know, I know, it's a little early but we're planners (strike that, Christie is enough planner for us both) and figured we could spread our spending out over the next several months rather than buying a whole bunch of stuff at once right before the baby arrives.

So we shopped and shopped, I gave opinions when asked, and sometimes when not asked... but there were three things we both agreed that the furniture must have:
  1. Dark wood... it matches the existing furniture in our house, plus we both like the look!

  2. The crib has to be a "combo"/"convertible" bed. Basically (and I didn't know this until Christie became "with child") they make Transformer beds!!! Not the kind that I wanted when I was younger (the one with Decepticons and Autobots splattered all over the sheets and pillows) but ones that ACTUALLY TRANSFORM... Much better! So you push a button and it turns from a crib, to a toddler bed, then to a full bed... (and by push a button I mean get out my tools and dissassemble and reassemble the thing manually)... Again, this reminds me of the Transformer toys that I had as a child... The commercials showed them "automagically" transforming as if my thoughts could make it happen... but alas, when I played with them I had to manually make them turn from Peterbilt to Renegade Robot... oh well, long story longer, these new cribs are AWESOME!

  3. The furniture needed to be comtemporary/transitional in style. Nothing too Uber-Modern, but nothing with too many swirls and flourishes either. Clean lines, and subtle details...
We ended up getting a pretty good deal on this stuff! Check it out below... We are happy with our decision!

Pretty cool, huh?

Until tomorrow for the weekly update.

Week 12: Ballet, Chameleons, and a New Pillow (Updated)

Greetings,
So apparently Baby is gaining reflexes this week... hard to believe since its only the size of a lime (I think more like a small lime rather than a big lime... I think its only 2") It's eyes are now in front of its head, where they should be. They used to be on the side of its head like an chameleon... I forgot to mention this earlier, but its true. Baby's toes can curl and its fingers can move. It can lightly kick, also. Basically it is preparing to do ballet in Christie's womb, which is cool and disturbing at the same time.

We are now the proud owners of a "Snoogie". What is a Snoogie, you ask? Well, a Snoogie is a long pillow shaped like a handicapped "S" that Christie sleeps with and helps with 2 things:
  1. It keeps her from rolling on her back, which restricts blood flow to the baby. Baby - Bloodflow = Bad!
  2. It helps Christie sleep more comfortably. Christie + Sleep = Good!

Update: The "Snoogie" is actually a "Snoogle"  I misread the package when I glanced at it... This mistake was brought to my attention by Virginia! Thanks Pal!

We also officially own 4 books on babies, yet only possess 2 of them. We got one when we went for our first "baby doctor" visit. (It was given to us by the Cord Blood Registry... How nice of them!) Then we ordered 3 others that the doctor recommended from Barnes & Noble. However, ya see, B&N sent us 1 book on pregnancy.... and two other titles: "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Self-Sufficient Living" (as in, how to grow/farm/raise everything you could ever need to live) and "How to Grow More Vegetables" (as in, how to grow more vegetables.) Imagine our surprise when we got these instead of "On Becoming Baby Wise" and "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer"... However, they were surprisingly good reads and we now own 5 Chickens and have corn growing in the back yard! (Just kidding...)

The comments have been lacking, so I'm not sure people even read this... but until next time,

    Week 11: Our little fig...

    Hello...

So I know we just posted the other day, but we had a doctor's visit yesterday and I know everyone is sitting by their laptop, desktop, iPhone, or web enabled TV, refreshing the page every 3 minutes (some more, some less, but I figured 3 minutes was a good average) or so!

Well, the big news is two fold:

    1) Christie and Baby are doing great! All the bloodwork came back just fine, so that took some stress off of us (even though we knew everything would be fine, there's always that little thing in the back of your mind that says... what if?)

    2) We heard Baby's heartbeat for the first time! It was pretty cool... To all the parents out there that have experienced this before - We now understand what you mean (at least partially)... Baby kept moving around so it took a couple of tries to hear it for longer than a couple of seconds... Crazy!

Apparently, the little one is about the size of a fig now... Thankfully this information was also accompanied with a measurement: 1 1/2 inches long, because I'm not sure I've ever seen a fig in person.

Also, I decided to stop saying his/her and he/she and decided to go with "Baby"... yep, that'll suffice until we find out in March!

We get more excited every day... Until next time!

Week 10: Came and Went... Quickly!

    Okie Dokie,

We have had an incredibly crazy last week and a half... lots of people over for a glorious New Year's Eve Party with plenty of good friends and great food, including meatballs, lots of chips and dips, a pickle and olive platter, and a Chick-Fil-A tray (for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl that aired on NYE). Christie was a trooper... she stayed up until nearly 3am! Everyone left or went to bed around 3:30am.

New Years Day was spent cleaning the house and relaxing/recovering from the night before. Not much more to tell here.

The next day was the Cotton Bowl, in which Oklahoma State and our beloved Pokes made an appearance... well, at least the defense made an appearance... our offense stayed in Stillwater (but that is an entirely different blog post for an entirely different blog).

All of this is relevant to the Baby Blog, because... well, he/she will definately be having his/her little friends over for New Year's Eve Parties at some point... when it's 25, right? And it will be indoctrinated with OSU periphenalia from the second it is born. (I really can't wait to stop typing "he/she" and "it"... mid-february I can! Get your votes in now)

Tomorrow we see the doc again for our another sonogram (I think). We also get to figure out how much this little one is gonna cost to have! Who ever said the best things in life are free? I don't buy it! We'll give you guys another update after the doctor visit...

Oh, also it was brought to my attention that I never posted the due date... as of now it is July 28th, 2010!

    Adios,
