Week 19: Naomi, Drum roll, please...

We went to see Naomi again today and before seeing the her, Christie laid down on the table to have the baby measured via a sonagram... After many measurements were taken (I think they measured every single body part possible) we went on a gender quest. More on that in a second...

We then went back outside to the waiting room without seeing Naomi. She needed to look at the pics and measurements to make sure the baby was healthy... 5 minutes later we get called in to sit in our exam room... only to wait more. We were a little nervous so it felt like hours of waiting when the whole thing thus far had only taken about an hour and 15 mins (with 30 of that being the sonogram.) Naomi finally came in and talked to us about our perfectly healthy baby! We asked a few questions and left.

Oh yeah, and by the way, IT'S A GIRL!!! And we know that she is going to be a very proper young lady because she covered her "privates" with her hands so we couldn't see... we had to try to find a different angle to find out... she made us wait a while!

This is the coolest news I've had in quite a while... I just can't stop smiling...

See ya,
D&C

P.S. She's the size of an heirloom tomato.... really? pretty specific and also crossing back to the "veggies that are really fruits" realm... oh well. IT'S A GIRL!

This also warrants a new color scheme!!! Which will most likely be similar to the colors that we paint the room.

Naomi Checks the Baby

One thing I hate about the doctor's visits is that when we have an 8:45am appointment, we are lucky if we get called in by 10:30am (That's only slightly an exaggeration...really its like 9:15am) I understand that this is the nature of prenatal care with the unexpected deliveries and what not, but that doesn't mean i have to like it... right?

So we went to see Dr. Naomi (it really is pretty uncanny, the only difference is that our Naomi is pregnant and the one on TV is not...) and she did all the standard stuff. She asked how Christie was feeling. She reminds us how far along we are. She asks if we have any questions. She then listens to all 50 of the questions that I've written down/ typed out on my phone over the past month... she's a good and patient doctor! Christie hasn't gained much weight yet, so we asked about that... she said its normal to not gain or even lose weight over the first trimester. So we're all good there. We asked some questions about safe products, etc. Then we found out some exciting news...

Before I share this news I need to point out that Christie was born on March 6th. I am sometimes very creative with birthday/anniversary presents (especially when we were dating, go figure) and sometimes I am not creative at all... though I haven't forgotten any yet! Woo hoo! That being said, keep these two facts in mind:
  1. Birthdays are a pretty big deal.
  2. Finding out the sex of a baby is a pretty big deal.
On to the exciting news... We get to find out the sex of our baby next month!!! No more "it", "he/she", or just "Baby"... The day we find out? March 5th (which might as well be March 6th, which is Christie's birthday) I'm sure you see where I'm going with this... I think it is brilliant! I was able to perfectly plan the the timing of our pregnancy to ensure that one of the major milestones fell precisely (or really really close) on my wonderful wife's birthday! I am the best husband in the world! I am able to give the gift of "knowing the gender of our baby" to Christie for her birthday!

Genius Right? No? What? That doesn't count as a birthday present? Crap! Well, I thought it was a great idea... Oh well.

I have also decided that it would be cool to take a picture of Christie's belly every week until the baby comes to be able to look back and see the progression over time. Notice that I said "I decided"... I still have to convince Christie... so we'll see.

I DO have some other pretty cool news but that will have to wait till next time (I'll try to not wait till next week)

Until then,

Week 15: The Byrds and Naomi... Checkup #3

So,

This post might be a little short, but we are headed to the doctor on Friday morning for our 3rd visit... By the way, if anyone watches Private Practice, our Doc looks almost identical to Naomi on that show, which is kinda cool because I feel like a celebrity is going to deliver our baby! Only 1 more visit left till we get our 2nd sonogram and find out whether we buy blue paint or pink paint...

As for Baby, well... about 4 inches and about 2.5 oz heavy... How 'bout them apples!!! Ha! It's actually about the size of an apple... so that's why I said "How 'bout them apples!!!" Get it!?!?! It's eyes are "fused" shut which I didn't even know before now, that makes me upset, but just a little bit. However, apparently his/her ears are working just fine, because our "Weekly Activity" is to begin talking to the baby, so it can get used to our voices, etc. Crazy how things work, isn't it?

Until this weekend (When I'll have a "Naomi" visit and another very exciting story to share)

Week 10: Came and Went... Quickly!

Okie Dokie,

We have had an incredibly crazy last week and a half... lots of people over for a glorious New Year's Eve Party with plenty of good friends and great food, including meatballs, lots of chips and dips, a pickle and olive platter, and a Chick-Fil-A tray (for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl that aired on NYE). Christie was a trooper... she stayed up until nearly 3am! Everyone left or went to bed around 3:30am.

New Years Day was spent cleaning the house and relaxing/recovering from the night before. Not much more to tell here.

The next day was the Cotton Bowl, in which Oklahoma State and our beloved Pokes made an appearance... well, at least the defense made an appearance... our offense stayed in Stillwater (but that is an entirely different blog post for an entirely different blog).

All of this is relevant to the Baby Blog, because... well, he/she will definately be having his/her little friends over for New Year's Eve Parties at some point... when it's 25, right? And it will be indoctrinated with OSU periphenalia from the second it is born. (I really can't wait to stop typing "he/she" and "it"... mid-february I can! Get your votes in now)

Tomorrow we see the doc again for our another sonogram (I think). We also get to figure out how much this little one is gonna cost to have! Who ever said the best things in life are free? I don't buy it! We'll give you guys another update after the doctor visit...

Oh, also it was brought to my attention that I never posted the due date... as of now it is July 28th, 2010!

Adios,
D&C
